Seeing Again – Read Lk 18:35-43
Contemplation
It’s a bustling roadside – dirty but crowded. Everyone is excited that Jesus is coming and there are people all over – shouting, cheering, pushing. A voice calls out from the pavement. “Jesus, Son of David! Help!” People look round. Oh, it’s just the blind beggar. “Shut up! No-one’s interested in you!” He’s not going to be put off. “Son of David, have mercy.”
Wait a minute. Jesus stops. He’s certainly interested in the man. Suddenly the crowd is silent. Surely Jesus isn’t concerned about this man – he’s here every day! But he is. Reluctantly, and with a bit of prompting from Jesus, they guide the man to him. “How can I help?” Jesus asks gently. “I haven’t been able to see for a long time … but I want to see again.” Jesus says, “Well now you can. Your faith has saved you!” Suddenly, images and shapes come into view and the man is healed. The people – including all those who were telling him to shut up – are amazed and thanking God for this amazing gift.
Talk to the people and live in the scene for a bit?
Who do I identify with?
Have other people made my relationship with Jesus difficult? How do I react?
