Feeding The Hungry – Read Lk 9:12-17
Contemplation
It’s late and we are in a place far from where anyone lives. There are no shops or villages or houses. Still, there are thousands of people here. The disciples are worried. “How are we going to feed everyone? They can’t go home, and we haven’t got the money to shop for an army!” Jesus says, “Give them something yourself?” What? How? We don’t have more than five sticks of bread and two fish! Jesus tells them to get everyone to sit down in some kind of order. The disciples go around, telling everyone to sit in groups of fifty people. They are very confused as the people all sit down on the grass as they have been told. Jesus takes the bread and the fish, lifts them up to bless them, and then gives them to the disciples. What now? “Hand them out!” They are confused, we still only have five loaves on two fish! Still they do as he says … and somehow they keep having enough bread and fish. Around and around they go, and the bread and fish never runs out! They still have twelve baskets full when they finish!
Talk to Jesus, the people and the disciples. How do they feel? What do the bread and fish feel like, smell like? How do they taste?
Have I been given impossible jobs?
Is Jesus there with me?
