Jesus And John – Read Lk 7:18-30
Contemplation
John, Jesus’ cousin and the wild man who baptised him, is in prison. He has made the man who rules the country for the Romans angry. He knows that he will probably be killed and he sends two of his followers to Jesus. Just after healing the dead man and all sorts of other people, the wild looking men come pleading at Jesus’ feet. “Are you the person we are all looking for to save us?,” they ask. “After all, our master is in prison and the Romans and their horrible servants are still running the country.” Jesus tells them to go and tell John what they see and hear: all the wonderful things that happen when he’s around. He reminds them that people who hope in him won’t be disappointed. After they go, he tells the people that John is very special – more than just a prophet but the greatest person there has ever been before Jesus came-Jesus’ messenger.
Talk to John, to Jesus and the messengers.
Have I felt disappointed in Jesus at not making everything better?
How does he answer me?
