Skin Problems – Lk 5:12-16

Contemplation

In a crowded house listening to Jesus, I feel dust falling on my face and shoulders, there’s a loud noise and crash – a hole in the roof. Here comes a bed with a man on it. I see and hear some men letting it down on ropes. What’s Jesus doing about the interruption. He doesn’t seem worried, he even calls the man a friend! “Your sins are forgiven,” he says. What’s sin got to do with it? A couple of the religious people in the crowd are angry. “How can you say that?” “Who do you think you are – God? Nobody else can do that!” “Well,” says Jesus, “If I said, ‘Your sins are forgiven’, or ‘Get up and walk’, which is easier?” Now they are really confused – aren’t both of them impossible? Has this man EVER walked? Go on! Well, now he’s said it, “Get up and walk!” … AND HE DOES! Maybe if he can do this thing everyone can see, he can do the other stuff too? God’s definitely doing something here. “We have seen strange things” everyone says.

  • I know that if I can walk or not, sin is not the question. Still, do I trust Jesus to do the big things?

  • Would I help people by going out of my way (even if I don’t have to take rooves off?)?

  • Do I have faith that I can bring to Jesus for my friends or me?
