Gratitude – Read Lk 17:11-19
Contemplation
We are walking towards the big city of Jerusalem – going through an area that borders on Samaria. Many of the people here are a bit different from Jesus and his people – and the two groups don’t really trust each other. They don’t follow God in the same way, and their version of the Bible is a bit different. As a result, we are a bit nervous going through the countryside here. There’s a big group coming along the road towards us. As they come, they stop a bit in front of us. They look sick. They have leprosy – the skin disease which is very catching and their skin looks rough and painful. “Jesus, please help!” they say. What will Jesus do? He says, “Go and show the priests that you are better!” Instantly, they look better. One of them turns back. “Jesus,” he says. “Thank you so much!” He is speaking with an accent. He’s a Samaritan, one of the foreigners! Jesus is amazed. “Where’s everyone else?” he asks. “Carry on,” he says. “Your faith has made you better.”
Talk to Jesus and the people. How do they feel?
How do I relate to people who seem different – especially if they need help?
How do I ask for help?
How do I receive help?
