Little Boy Lost – Read Luke 2: 41-51
Contemplation
Jesus has grown now, he’s about 12. The family are all going to Jerusalem for Passover, the great Jewish feast that celebrates how God brought the people out from being slaves in Egypt to the land of Israel. After spending a happy week with family, Mary, Joseph, Jesus and some of the Bethlehem family are going home. They have been on the road for most of a day and suddenly notice that Jesus isn’t with them anymore. Where is he! In panic, they rush back to Jerusalem, hunting everywhere. Has he fallen somewhere? Got lost somehow? Running back to the Temple, they see their little boy in one of the rooms. He’s talking with a whole group of people! They all seem to be people who are experts in the Scriptures and he’s asking questions and giving answers. They can’t believe how much he knows. Mary and Joseph are shocked! “Why did you do this to us! Do you know how we have been looking for you and how worried we have been for you!” Jesus is surprised. “Why? Didn’t you know I would be doing jobs for my Father?” They are confused.
Travel with the family for a bit. Stay with Jesus for a bit. Listen to, smell and watch and touch the things they are hearing, smelling, seeing and touching.
How does each feel and what are they thinking?
Have I felt lost (because I have just felt lost or really been lost)?
Where was God in that?
