Hungry Hands … – Read Lk 6:1-5

Contemplation

We are walking through tall, gold fields. The wheat stalks whisper around us. It’s been a long day, even though it’s a rest day, and the disciples nibble bits of the stalks as they go past – picking and rubbing them so they can get to the soft inside. Some of the people see us and a few, who have a very strict view of the law of God, say that we shouldn’t be eating out of the fields on a rest day. Jesus says “remember that even David’s men ate the priests’ food in the temple which they weren’t allowed to – and here you are asking God’s son to do differently? Who is more important – God’s Son or a rest day?”

  • Talk to Jesus, the people asking questions and the disciples? What do they say and feel?

  • Do I follow rules when not following them would be better for me or for others? How do I tell the difference?
