Withered Hands And Hearts: Read Mark 3:1-6

Contemplation

Back in the synagogue, with its informal atmosphere, people are talking as they take their seats for the Saturday service. Suddenly, near the front, there’s a man whose hand doesn’t work. It hangs by his side, small and weak. “Come up here,“ says Jesus. “Stretch it out!” But how? What’s this? The man moves the hand that hasn’t worked for years, and it grows – suddenly strong, full of life and healthy. “What’s all this on a rest day?” asks someone. Whispers and mutters grow along with the excitement.

  • What bits of me are withered?

  • How do I react to the strange, the unusual?

  • Am I open to God acting in ways I don’t expect?
