Lord Of Light – Read Mark 9:1-8
Contemplation
We walk up a high mountain. It’s a tough climb but, as the ground sinks below us, there’s something strange happening. Now it’s just a few of us – Jesus and his closest friends. But … something odd is happening. Jesus looks really bright…he’s almost shining with power. Jesus seems to be talking to two men about the Torah and the words of the prophets. Can it be? The two men actually ARE Moses (who was given the Torah) and the great Prophet of Fire, Elijah. His friends don’t know what to say. They are frightened and surprised …and amazed and full of love and wonder. There’s something holy going on, that’s for sure, and they want to catch the moment – build something, stop time. But then comes that great Cloud – like at the Baptism – and that same voice that fills every part with everyone, “THIS IS MY SON, THE BELOVED, LISTEN TO HIM.” …. A silence…and suddenly everything is back to what it was. Just Jesus, no voice, no cloud.
How do I feel?
What does Jesus’ presence feel like?
Do I want to catch God and put the moment in a box when I feel God near?
What does the VOICE sound and feel like?
What does it mean to really listen to Jesus?
