A Woman And Her Daughter – Read Mark 7:24-31
Contemplation
We are in a foreign country now. The smells, the spices, the language is all a bit different, although we are still walking near the sea. We are near a great and very old city – a trading port with people from all sorts of places buying, selling, calling out in every language. A woman from this place comes up to us. She talks with a strong accent, although it is clear that she is both very intelligent and very worried. Her little girl is very sick. Jesus seems a bit gruff - “I have to look after my people first”. “But you are so generous – can’t we even get the leftovers?” Jesus himself seems a bit surprised, and we can see his mood change. “Your daughter is better.” We can feel the mood lift and change. We know everything will be alright now.
How do I react to unfamiliar people and people I don’t know asking me for things?
Is my heart open to people in need?
What are my challenges?
Can I approach people who I don’t know when I need help?
How do I react if they don’t help straightaway?
