Mistrust And Mission – Read Mark 6:1-11
Contemplation
Here we are back home, familiar smells, people we know. But Jesus isn’t at ease. People are suspicious. What makes the local odd job man so special? We know his family, and we know him – he’s just the carpenter’s son, and here he is telling us off and claiming to preach like a holy man! Stop getting ideas! Indeed, the miracles seem to have stopped happening – no storms stopped, no great wonders. The mood turns dark. There’s a smell of fear and muttering of threats. Still, the disciples are loyal and, ignoring the crowd, Jesus talks to them, reminding them that home is not always a happy place and sending them out to the villages to heal and preach.
Is home a place where I can grow and love?
If not, why not?
Do I feel Jesus sending me on mission?
What is it?
