Prophecy In Action – Read Mark 1:21-34

Sitting in the synagogue congregation, the scroll light lit, the crinkle as it is taken out and unrolled, the people shuffling, someone comes up to the bimah (lectern) and I hear a familiar piece of Scripture. But…it’s different. Why does this man’s voice sound so different? Here comes a man possessed – “the Son of God”, he says? What? But now the man is better, talking as if nothing had happened except full of wonder…. And who are all these others? A woman bedridden (for how long?) climbing out spry and healthy to serve. People being healed, new life wherever the man goes?
What does Jesus’ “authority” feel like?
What evil needs driving out of my life?
Healing is restoration to community…it’s not necessarily about physical or mental ability. Where do I hurt?
