A Boy In Trouble – Read Mark 9:14-28
Contemplation
We come back down the mountain, our heads still spinning from what we saw and heard. But now there’s trouble ahead. The others are arguing with a man holding the hand of a small boy. The boy doesn’t speak but falls down with seizures. The disciples didn’t know what to do and are shooing the sad pair away. Jesus walks up calmly and asks what the problem is. It sounds as though the boy has been that way since he was very little. “Do you believe?” Jesus says. “Yes,” says the man, “but can you help me to believe more?” Jesus talks to the boy, telling him to be well and whatever is in control of him to leave him alone. The fitting and grinding teeth stop, and the boy is calm again – too calm. It almost seems as if he is dead. Gently, Jesus lifts him to his feet. “Why couldn’t we do that?” ask the disciples. “You have to be more in touch with God” says Jesus.
What do I see, hear, feel?
Do I turn away people in need of help?
Am I open to God moving – even when things look hopeless?
Am I in touch with God?
