People looking for help: Read Matt 9:27-10:40

Contemplation

No sooner have we come out of the official’s house than people rush round us – looking for help. Two blind men brush past as they rush to the voice of the One who promises new sight. They cry out, calling him the Son of David – a king. Again, Jesus asks about trust. “Do you believe I can help?“ Someone who can’t speak and others with various illnesses also come around. Each time, Jesus’ touch opens new worlds and brings people back to community. Some of the religious leaders are not happy. “It must be because he’s bad that he can control bad spirits!” Jesus ignores them and calls his friends to share his mission. They aren’t powerful soldiers or religious experts. They are ordinary people – like me! But listen to all the things he asks them to do – heal, preach, help!

  • Talk to Jesus, the people looking for help, the religious leaders, the disciples.

  • If disability is part of my limit, how do I react?

  • What are my gifts and my limits, and what can I ask of Jesus?

  • Where might he be working within my limits?

  • What do I say to those who think Jesus is part of the problem?

  • Can I still answer his call – regardless of my limits?
