There’s one of those tax stands! The men who run them are part of our people, but they take our money and give it to the foreign soldiers who rule us. They also take some for themselves. What’s Jesus going to do? Tell the tax man to repent, like John the Baptist? No, wait! He’s asking him to follow him! Why would the man do that? He is rich and comfortable. But he does! He even goes to the man’s house! The religious people are unhappy! Why is Jesus staying with people who hurt their own people? “Who needs to see the doctor?,” he asks. “Sick people or healthy people?”
Talk to Jesus, Matthew and the people and wander around the house.
How do I react to people I see as bad – especially when they do the right thing?
How do I react to others who reach out to them?
