Changed!: Read Matt 17:1-13
Contemplation
It’s lonely up here. We are going up a mountain with stones crunching and the air cold in silence. At the top we stop – Jesus is with three of his friends and the wind and the air crackle. Suddenly, he looks … different. His clothes and face shine, even the cloud glows and we feel … Power all around us. And, wait, who are these extra people? I know them: Moses, the one who gave God’s teachings to the People of Israel and Elijah, God’s prophet of fire. They are talking to Jesus. Peter is overcome – “We need to worship – to catch this moment by building something.” Suddenly we feel a Voice, “This is my Son. I love him. Listen to him.” And then all is quiet again. The Power is gone and Jesus is the same person we have been walking with for months, telling us to get up again and not to be afraid. We see that we’ve fallen down in fear. As we dust ourselves off and go back down, Jesus tells us not to tell anyone until he’s risen from the dead. Wait, what does that mean?
Talk to Jesus, disciples, prophets. What do they say?
Have I ever felt God close to me? What was it like?
Do I want to hold God close? Or do I back away?
