Boat trip: Read Matt 8:18-27
Contemplation
We are off again, this time to cross the lake. As we get ready to get in the boat we see a man coming up the beach. He’s a scribe, someone who studies a lot and knows about the teachings of God. He wants to follow Jesus. Jesus tells him it will be difficult – “I don’t have a home to go to or a bed to sleep in.” Another man says he will follow, but he’s got family commitments.
Jesus suggests he might be better here, where there’s life. Once we’re in the boat, the sky gets dark and the wind blows hard. We are rocking and water starts coming over the side. Where’s Jesus? He’s asleep. Asleep, now! “Wake up, wake up! We are going to sink!” Jesus looks up. “Where’s your faith?” He talks to the storm – to the storm! “Be quiet!” Suddenly there’s silence. The sea is flat and the wind is dead.
Talk to the new followers, the disciples, Jesus.
Does anything block me from following Jesus fully?
Are there things in my life that feel like storms?
Where is Jesus?
