Women who accompanied Jesus  Luke 8:1-3

Imaginative Contemplation

Enter into the scene

Travelling through the towns and villages of Israel was made easier for Jesus by the ministry of a number of women who followed him on his journeying. Healed of illness and anxieties, freed from demons of discouragement and persecution, liberated from destructive attitudes towards self and others, these women joyfully and willingly provided for the needs of Jesus and his disciples.

In a culture where women were expected to be silent and submissive, Jesus allowed and encouraged them to use their gifts for the whole community.

For further reflection

Discuss with Jesus the following points:

·      What is my attitude towards people who are marginalized? People who are

o  Indigenous

o  Sexually diverse

o  Disabled

o  Elderly

o  Refugees

o  Of other races, religions, languages.

Prayer

Lord, help me to find correct information about the different cultures and conditions of my fellow human beings. Help me to recognise all people as members of Our Father’s family. Lead me to pray the Our Father reflectively and respectfully. Amen.
