The Widow’s Offering Luke 21:1-4
Imaginative Contemplation
Enter into the scene
God has been so good to me. It is true that I have very little money, and often wonder how I will pay for the day’s meals. But today is a special day. One of my neighbours gave me money for doing some work for her. I bought what I need for this week, and I had a few coins over. I felt an obligation to give these extra coins to the Lord who had provided so well for me.
I came to the foyer of the Temple and quietly dropped my donation into the treasury. I didn’t want anyone to notice, because my offering was so small. After praying for a while in the Temple, I went home, praising God for his goodness to me.
For further reflection
Discuss with Jesus the following points:
· Do I remember to thank God for his daily gifts to me?
· Do I thank people who offer help to me?
· When I give alms, do I want to be noticed?
· When appeals are sent to me, do I take the time to consider how I can respond?
· When I am not able to offer financial assistance, do I pray for worthy causes?
Prayer
Lord, teach me to be generous with my money, my time, my assistance, my prayer. Give us our daily bread. Amen.
