Federal Elections 2025

CRA 2025 FEDERAL ELECTION Guide

It’s time to vote and this month’s edition of Just Now focuses on 4 key policy areas which CRA considers are needed to help achieve the common good for Australian society: climate and the environment, First Nations Peoples, the cost of living crisis, and refugees and people seeking asylum.

We hope you find this special edition of Just Now informative and thought-provoking.

Care for the natural world, our "common home," is a central moral concern of the Catholic Church, and Catholic Religious Australia (CRA) is a strong advocate for environmental and climate justice.
Ahead of Australia’s Federal Election on 3 May, CRA calls on its members, friends, and colleagues to carefully consider the issues raised in our Position Statement on Climate and the Environment read the full text Here.

Issues of truth-telling, treaty, self-determination, Closing the Gap, and Changing the Record remain urgently important and should rank high on the next federal government’s agenda, despite the disappointing outcome of the referendum on a First Nations Voice to Parliament. Read the Position Statement on First Australians here.

After years of high inflation and high interest rates, with costs rising faster than wages and incomes, Australians — particularly those on lower incomes — are being hit hard. Read the Position Statement on the Cost of Living Crisis here.

In his General Audience on 28 August 2024, Pope Francis urged us to recognise the ongoing suffering of migrants and refugees, calling for "a renewed and deepened look, capable of embracing the faces and stories of those who cross borders in search of hope." Read the Position Statement on Refugees and People Seeking Asylum here.

Below are the responses received regarding the position statements. Their feedback provides insight into their perspectives and commitments on the key issues raised.
