Spiritual Direction has a rich history in the Church. It may not always have been known by this term, but the experience of looking to a spiritual guide, a ‘Father’ or ‘Mother’ for advice and support goes back to the time of Jesus. Jesus was ‘Rabbi’, the ‘Master’, writes CRA President, Br Peter Carroll FMS. Some people prefer other words to describe the relationship: spiritual companion, or just ‘accompaniment’ are also used. Whatever the terminology, they all denote a unique relationship: a special ministry of presence – a patient, waiting, hospitable, mutual presence. Traditionally, it’s been seen as a covenanted relationship between two people. It truly is a sacred ministry.

Over the years, many people have asked me: “What is it like being a twin?” I always stop and pause but never really seem to be able to give much of an answer because I do not know what it is like not being a twin. Sometimes people also ask: “What is it like to have a twin brother who is also a Columban missionary?”, writes Fr Kevin O’Neill SSC in The Columban eBulletin.

The evangelising power of Christian art
Jesus said nothing about art. He did, however, speak using images that were at once familiar enough to be grasped and yet evocative enough to provide a glimpse of the mystery about which he was speaking – God, the Kingdom, the Temple, the Cross, eternal life, writes Fr Stephen Hackett MSC in The Bridge.
