It’s commendable that we closed the nation to prevent the spread of the COVID virus, writes CRA President, Br Peter Carroll FMS. Lives were protected and saved. Should we not apply the same level of concern and action to other situations where life is threatened? Racism, economic injustice, exclusion, environmental degradation, militarism – all these, and so many other activities, diminish and destroy life. There will always be political and philosophical differences, however, if we hold that all life is sacred, then our priorities and practices are obvious. Life matters.

Much has been written in recent months about COVID-19, its significance and possible lasting impact. It’s exercised the mind and ‘pen’ of not just journalists and commentators, but also sociologists, economists, politicians and theologians. As we start to emerge from the strict lockdowns and restrictions, it’s appropriate to pause and reflect on the lessons of this most peculiar and anxious time, writes CRA President, Br Peter Carroll FMS.
